If you are constantly in trouble off the tee try this...next round...
Take a 5 iron ...a nine iron ...and a putter.... that is it!
tee off with the 5 iron...it probably will go 150-200 yards down the fairway(surprise!)
then for the second shot do the same and use the 9 iron to get on the green and chip with around the green
heck you might even break 90 for the first time
I shot 85 on the Braintree Mass. public course with just a 5 iron ..nine iron and my Zebra Putter...and that course isn't easy!
and remember to hit down on the ball and not try to "scoop" the ball into the air... it is the loft of the club that gets the ball airborne...hit down on the ball,
the club face makes contact and launches the ball upward...then the club takes the divot....no scooping please...
try it....you might like playing in the "short grass"
